PGA챔피언스 투어 2년차 양용은 프로

챨스 슈왑컵 랭킹 40위 ,적응 마치고 우승 위한 도약

한국 남자 골퍼의 자랑인 양용은이 50세 이상 베테랑들이 경쟁하는 미국프로골프(PGA Tour) 챔피언스 투어 데뷔 이후 최고 성적인 2위를 기록했다.

지난해 9월11일 미국 미주리주 세인트루이스의 노우드 힐스 컨트리 클럽(파71)에서 열린 어센션 채러티 클래식(총상금 200만 달러) 최종 3라운드에서 버디 7개와 보기 2개를 묶어 5언더파 66타 3일 합계 13언더파 200타를 쳤다.

작년 2월 처브 클래식부터 만 50세가 되어 챔피언스 투어에 나선 양용은은 7월 스코틀랜드에서 열린 시니어 브리티시 오픈에서 공동 10위에 오른 게 이전까진 유일한 ‘톱10’ 기록이었다.

올해 3월에 캘리포니아 뉴포트 비치 컨트리 클럽에서 개최된 Hoag 클래식에서는 공동31위로 이어 팜 스프링스의 미션 힐스 컨트리 클럽에서 개최된 Galleri 클래식에서는 공공46위를 기록하며 챨스슈왑컵 랭킹40위에 오르며 챔피언스 투어에서 점점 익숙해 져가고 있다.

양용은 프로의 이러한 챔피언스 투어 적응은 새로 결혼한 아나운서 출신 김미진씨가 지난2년간 캐디를 맡아 양용은 선수의 손과 발이 되어 양용은 프로가 좀더 편하게 대회에 임할수 있도록 해줬다.

이제는 전문 캐디가 양용은 프로의 대회를 돕고 있다.

미국 본토 대회중에는 조지아 아트란타 TPC 골프장 인근에 주택을 임대해 휴식과 연습을 하고 있고 시즌이 끝나야 하와이에 있는 집에 가서 생활을 하고 있다.

이제 시니어 대회에서 새로운 골프인생을 그리고 있는 양용은 프로는 미국 챔피언스 투어 곧 우승할 것 같은 감각을 익히고 있다

챔피언스 투어에서 활약하고 있는 양용은 프로는 미국 메이저 골프대회 아시안 최초 우승자로 한국 남자 골프의 한 획을 그은 선수이다. 2009년 8월17일 제 91회 PGA 챔피언십에서 타이거우즈를 꺾고 역전우승을 달성하며 한국을 포함한 아시아 남자 골프 선수로는 최초로 메이저 대회 우승 기록을 세웠다.

고등학교 졸업한 후 골프를 시작해 세계적인 골프선수가 된 것은 나름대로의 원칙과 대단한 집념이 있어서 이다.

하나 갖기도 어렵다는 투어 시드를 한해에 미국 투어를 비롯해 유럽, 일본 투어 시드를 가진 유일한 선수이기도 했다.

프로 선수가 된 후 KPGA코리안투어에서2002년 SBS 프로골프 최강전 우승,2006년 코오롱 하나은행 한국오픈 우승,2010년 코오롱 제53회 한국오픈 우승등 3승을 이워냈고 2016년 리우데자네이루 올림픽에서 골프가 올림픽 정식 종목으로 채택된 이후 KBS 올림픽 골프 해설위원으로도 활동했다.

그리고 미국 PGA투어에서는2009년 혼다클래식 우승과2009년 PGA 챔피언십우승을 했고 유러피안 투어에서는 2006년 HSBC 챔피언스 우승,2010년 볼보차이나오픈 우승

을 일본투어에서는2004년 썬 클로렐라 클래식2004년 아사히-료쿠켄 요미우리 메모리얼 2005년 코카콜라 도카이 클래식 2006년 산토리오픈 2018년 더 크라운스 우승등5개의 대회에서 우승을 기록해 아시안투어 2승을 포함하면 개인 통산 14승을 올렸다.

Ranked 40th in the Charles Schwab Cup standings, ready to make a leap for victory after adapting.

Recorded his best performance of 2nd place on the PGA Champions Tour, a competition for veterans aged 50 and above in the United States, since making his debut. On September 11th of last year, at the Ascension Charity Classic (total prize money of $2 million) held at the Norwood Hills Country Club (par 71) in St. Louis, Missouri, Yang shot a 5-under-par 66 in the final third round, totaling 13-under-par 200 for 3 days with 7 birdies and 2 bogeys.

Yang, who made his debut on the Champions Tour after turning 50 at the Chubb Classic in February last year, had only one previous top-10 finish, tied for 10th at the Senior British Open held in Scotland in July. This year, he continued to adapt to the Champions Tour, finishing tied for 31st at the Hoag Classic held at Newport Beach Country Club in March, and recording tied for 46th at the Galleria Classic held at Mission Hills Country Club in Palm Springs, rising to 40th in the Charles Schwab Cup rankings.

Yang YE, a professional golfer, has been able to adapt well to the Champions Tour thanks to the support of his newlywed wife, former announcer Kim Mi-jin, who has been his caddy for the past two years, helping him feel more comfortable in tournaments.

Now a professional caddy is assisting Yang YE in his tournaments. During mainland US tournaments, he rents a house near the TPC golf course in Atlanta, Georgia for rest and practice, and after the season, he lives in his home in Hawaii.

Yang YE, who is now drawing a new golfing life in senior tournaments, is gaining a sense of confidence that he will soon win on the Champions Tour. As a golfer who has been active on the Champions Tour, Yang YE made history as the first Asian male golfer, including Korea, to win a major golf championship by defeating Tiger Woods and achieving a come-from-behind victory at the 91st PGA Championship on August 17, 2009.

Starting golf after graduating from high school, Yang YE became a world-class golfer through his own principles and remarkable dedication. He was also the only player with tour seeds in the US, Europe, and Japan tours in a single year, which was not easy to obtain.

After becoming a professional golfer, Yang YE achieved three victories in the KPGA Korean Tour, including winning the SBS Pro Golf Championship in 2002, the Kolon Hana Bank Korea Open in 2006, and the Kolon 53rd Korea Open in 2010. He also worked as a golf commentator for KBS during the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics, after golf was adopted as an official Olympic sport.

In addition, Yang YE has won two championships on the PGA Tour in the United States, including the 2009 Honda Classic and the 2009 PGA Championship. He has also won on the European Tour, with victories in the 2006 HSBC Champions and the 2010 Volvo China Open, as well as on the Japan Tour, with wins in the 2004 Sun Chlorella Classic, the 2004 Asahi-Ryokuken Yomiuri Memorial, the 2005 Coca-Cola Tokai Classic, the 2006 Suntory Open, and the 2018 The Crowns, totaling five victories. Including his two wins on the Asian Tour, Yang YE has a total of 14 individual victories in his career.
