Consecutive Wins on the Korn Ferry Tour Secure PGA TOUR Card for Chan Kim in 2024

김찬(Chan Kim)은 알버트슨 보이시 오픈 프레젠티드 바이 쉐브론에서 첫 번째 PGA TOUR 카드를 확보했다. 그는 연속으로 보기 없는 7언더 64타를 기록하여 총 28언더 256타를 기록하고 콘 페리 투어 역사에서 4라운드 스코어 중 네 번째로 최저타 기록을 달성했고 1990년 투어 설립 이후 처음으로 이벤트에서 단 한번의 보기도 없이 우승한 선수가 되었다.
이 대회 우승에 앞서 한주전 마그니트 챔피언십에서 처음 우승한 김찬은 콘 페리 투어 역사에서 연속 우승한 12번째 선수(13번째 사례)가 되었다. 콘 페리 투어 역사에서 연속 우승한 마지막 사례는 2021년이었는데, 캐머런 영(Cameron Young)과 미토 페레이라(Mito Pereira)가 4주 연속으로 연속 승리를 기록한 것이다.

1990년 3월24일생으로 33살인 김찬은 한국 수원에서 태어나 하와이에서 자랐다. 아마추어 시절 2007 Hawaii Amateur,2008 Arizona Stroke Play Championship, Thunderbird International. 2009 Pacific Coast Amateur, 2010 Arizona Stroke Play Championship을 각각 우승했다.
2010년 프로로 활동을 시작해 2011년 캐나다 투어에서 활동했고 2013년 챌린지 투어와 2013년 및 2014년 아시안 투어에서 경기를 했다. 2013년에는 양더 토너먼트 플레이어스 챔피언십에서 준우승을 차지하기도 했다.
2015년부터 일본 골프 투어에서 활동하기 시작한 김찬은 2017년 게이트웨이 투더 미즈노 오픈을 시작으로 2019년에는 일본 메이저 대회인 제펜 오픈 챔피언쉽에서 우승한것과 2022년 카지오 월드 오픈에서 우승하는 등 일본 대회에서 8번 우승했다
일본 골프 투어에서 두 번째 이벤트인 시게오 나가시마 인비테이셔널 세가 새미 컵에서 66타 무보기 마지막 라운드를 치고 우승한 것을 비롯해 올해 8월Korn Ferry Tour에서 첫 번째 이벤트인 엘버슨 보이지 오픈 우승과 이 우승에 이어 매그닛 챔피언십에서 3타 차로 우승을 차지했다.
Chan Kim secured his first PGA TOUR card at the Albertsons Boise Open presented by Chevron, marking his second consecutive victory on the Korn Ferry Tour. He achieved an incredible 7-under 64 in the final round, finishing with a total of 28-under 256. This remarkable performance not only secured his PGA TOUR card but also set the fourth-lowest 72-hole score in Korn Ferry Tour history. He became the first player to win an event without a single bogey since the tour’s inception in 1990.
Just a week before this victory, Chan Kim clinched his first-ever Korn Ferry Tour win at the Magnit Championship, making him the 12th player (13th instance) in Korn Ferry Tour history to achieve consecutive victories. The last time consecutive wins occurred in Korn Ferry Tour history was in 2021 when Cameron Young and Mito Pereira achieved four consecutive wins.
“This was my goal coming here,” Kim stated. By ranking in the top 30 on the Korn Ferry Tour Points List, he secured PGA TOUR membership for the 2024 season. “That was my end-of-the-year goal, so I’m okay with coming here and playing instead of just playing in Japan.”
Born on March 24, 1990, in Suwon, South Korea, Kim, aged 33, grew up in Hawaii. During his amateur career, he claimed victories in prestigious tournaments such as the 2007 Hawaii Amateur, 2008 Arizona Stroke Play Championship, Thunderbird International, 2009 Pacific Coast Amateur, and 2010 Arizona Stroke Play Championship.
He turned professional in 2010, played on the Canadian Tour in 2011, and participated in the Challenge Tour in 2013, along with the Asian Tour in 2013 and 2014. In 2013, he achieved a runner-up position at the Yeangder Tournament Players Championship.
Starting in 2015, Kim began competing on the Japan Golf Tour, where he achieved notable victories, including the 2019 Japan Major Championship (JAPAN PGA Championship), 2022 Casio World Open, and many more, totaling eight wins in Japan Golf Tour events.
Kim’s remarkable achievements include winning the Shigeo Nagashima Invitational Sega Sammy Cup in his second event on the Japan Golf Tour, including his victory at the Albertsons Boise Open and Magnit Championship on the Korn Ferry Tour in August
